Director Thanasis Tsaltabasis
Blunders, misfortunes and even the risk of failure cannot keep this guy down...
The young and talented Greek actor Thanasis Tsaltabasis steps in as writer-director and takes on the lead role of Eftyhis (meaning 'happy' in Greek) in a film that serves up lashings of laughs at this year's Festival.
Despite his name, Eftyhis is truly unlucky. Nothing ever goes his way. Furthermore, he cannot find a woman or a job.
One day, he meets a homeless person who has some timely advice for Eftyhis. And, as if by magic, he finds work, although this good fortune comes marred by an entanglement with the dangerous Dimosthenis (Vladimiros Kyriakidis) whose wife is a former classmate of Eftyhis.
Touching on some of the concerns and phobias of modern Greeks, all viewers – Greeks or otherwise – are likely to recognise a bit of Eftyhis in themselves: a little unlucky, a little naïve and a little wronged by life.
