The Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies (AIMS) in collaboration with Panmacedonian Association of Melbourne and Victoria present the film Manto Mavrogenous (in Greek).

The screening will take place on Wednesday the 25th of February 7.00 p.m. at the Macedonian House, 470 Queens Parade, Clifton Hill.

The film will be introduced by Dr. Eleni Kalamboukas & Theofani Karabatsas.

ENTRANCE is FREE and at the conclusion of the screening beverages and sweets will be served.

Manto Mavrogenous is a Heroine and a Martyr of the Greek War for Independence.

The film depicts the narrative of this very wealthy, extremely patriotic, gallant and generous Lady Manto who donated her entire fortune to the Hellenic cause of Liberation from the Ottoman Rule .

Under her encouragement her European friends contribute money, ammunitions, provisions and guns to the Revolution. Manto equipped and contributed at her own expense two ships with which she pursued the pirates to eradicate their actions in the Aegean.

She also recruited 150 men to campaign in the Peloponnese region, and in addition sent forces and financial support to the Island of Samos. Furthermore, she sent another corps of 50 men to Peloponnese to take part of the siege of Tripolitsa. She helped a number of families being in trouble in Northern Greece. It is documented that she sacrificed her youth, her wealth and her health for the liberation of the Hellenes. Το Αυστραλιανό Ινστιτούτο Μακεδονικών Σπουδών (ΑΙΜΣ) σε Συνεργασία με την Παμμακεδονική Ένωση Βικτωρίας παρουσιάζουν την ταινία «Μαντώ Μαυρογένους». Η Προβολή της ταινίας θα συνοδεύεται από σχόλια μελών του ΑΙΜΣ. Συγκεκριμένα η Δρ Ελένη Καλαμπούκα και η κ. Θεοφανή Καραμπάτσα θα σχολιάσουν και θα προβάλλουν την ηρωική μορφή της άξιας Ελληνίδας.

Mέσα από την ηθική έξαρση, τον ηρωισμό, την αυταπάρνηση για την πατρίδα, και το μεγαλείο της Επανάστασης'21 αναδύεται πρότυπο η δαφνοστεφανωμένη μορφή της ακατάβλητης αυτής ηρωίδας Μαντούς Μαυρογένους. Επρόκειτο για ένα πρότυπο αυτοθυσίας και ανιδιοτέλειας, και ενέπνευσε με το ιδεοφόρο παράδειγμά της στην παλιγγενεσία του Έθνους όχι μόνον τις Ελληνίδες αλλά και τις Φιλέλληνες διανοούμενες της Ευρώπης.

Η Μαντώ θυσίασε στον αγώνα για τον εξοπλισμό του στόλου μας, αλλά και την δημιουργία τμήματος Πεζικού την Πελώρια περιουσία της από χρυσά νομίσματα και ακίνητα της εποχής, μα πάνω απ' όλα θυσίασε τα νιάτα της και την υγεία της.
