Director Alexandros Avranas
"A sub-Hanekean portrait of a bourgeois family whose apparent civility masks a festering sore of unspeakable patriarchal foulness." The Guardian
With arguably even darker intent than Dogtooth (GFF 09), Alexandros Avranas' Miss Violence is a gruesomely disturbing tale of domestic and sexual abuse that swept this year's Hellenic Film Academy Awards.
On her 11th birthday, Angeliki (Chloe Bolota) launches herself off the balcony of the family's apartment to her death below while wearing a smile on her face. As the authorities and child protection agencies investigate the reasons behind such a tragic ending of young life, the nightmarish reality of both Angeliki and her siblings' lives are exposed in stark, horrific fashion.
"Miss Violence fulfils the grisly promise of its title." Time Out London
