Synopsis
Often portrayed as a Greek nationalist movement, this lecture will argue that the Pontian guerrilla movement was created as a survival mechanism in response to co-ordinated persecution by the Ottoman Empire, prior to World War 1. The reasons for that persecution as well as the multifarious forms the guerrilla movement took prior to the treaty between Greece and Turkey will be examined.
