The name ‘Merrimu’ comes from the original colonial homestead built on this site in 1882. It is a local Koori word that appropriately means, ‘meeting place’.
The original homestead was converted to a reception venue in 1955, now known as the Merrimu Room. Following a successful 12 years of trading, what is now known as the Grand Ballroom was constructed onto what was the sprawling grounds and circular driveway of the original home.
The Merrimu Room, still is complete with many of the original Victorian era features, seating up to 140 guests, while the Grand Ballroom can seat up to 400 guests.
