One of the most important and revered figures of the Greek popular music known as 'rebetika', Agathonas – is touring Australia for the very first time in June of this year.
A founding member of the seminal rebetiko group Rebetiko Synkrotima tis Thessalonikis, Agathonas is considered one of the finest proponents of the musical form commonly referred to as Greek blues.
A self-taught musician proficient in bouzouki, tsoura, mandola, mandolin, guitar and baglama, he is particularly noted for his vocal dexterity and prowess.
Agathona is joined on this tour by Greek noted singer Maria Dikta, violinist/multi-instrumentalist and Australian ex pat Hector Cosmas, and iconic local musicians Tony Iliou (guitar), bouzouki player and vocalist Fotis Vergopoulos and accordionist/percussionist George Kiriakidis
