The kind of solidarity that comes through soup...
At a time of social hysteria when many people are lamenting the loss of their material possessions, some heroes emerge from the most unlikely of places. In Stathis Galazoulas' short documentary, the hero is Konstantinos Polychronopoulos – an ordinary man doing extraordinary things with his mobile soup kitchen.
Far more than just offering sustenance, Konstantinos' soup kitchen has become a symbol of solidarity in crisis-ridden Athens; a humanistic gesture that raises awareness and offers some positivity in an otherwise gloomy landscape.
"I finally met [Konstantinos] on the occasion of his soup kitchen's first birthday, when I also started working as a volunteer myself. At the time, I was also in my second year of film school, looking for a story to inspire me for a film. He is a very pleasant and friendly man. I completed the shoot in four months."
