On June 10 the GCM hosted a meeting of representatives of many of Melbourne’s Greek community organisations at the Greek Centre. Unity, solidarity, willingness for cooperation and a common vision for the future, were the common themes that reverberated around the room as community representatives spoke openly about the changing landscape that Melbourne’s Greek community find itself experiencing.
The GCM President Bill Papastergiadis welcomed the representatives, expressing his gratitude for their continuous support to the GCM. He also thanked the members of the Greek Centre Fundraising Committee whose initiative it was to organise the meeting.
Fundraising Event Mr Papastergiadis also announced the Fundraising Committees plan to host a fundraising event on October 17 at which it was hoped that all the communities will be represented and assist in what is part of the Centre’s ongoing fundraising campaign. “The significance of this event should not be underestimated,” said Mr Papastergiadis. “It is important to us that the event be well represented from all of Melbourne’s communities as the Greek centre and its programs are designed to appeal to all of Melbourne’s communities.”
The event will be held on the 17th of October at EEAMA “Stars International Reception” in Preston.
Mr Papastergiadis particularly thanked the EEAMA’s Board of Directors who generously have offered the venue for the fundraising function at no cost.
Prominent members of the Fundraising Committee Mr Michael Karamitos and Mr Paul Mavroudis also addressed the event further clarifying the desire of the committee to see this latest fundraising venture as a work of the broader Greek community for the Greek Centre.
New services for Greek organisations Mr Papastergiadis also used the opportunity to propose a range of new services offered to fellow Greek community organisations that contribute to the Greek Centre by the GCM.
These services include:
• Secretarial support featuring a designated phone line and reception • Access to the Cultural Centre’s Serviced Offices and Meeting rooms • Access to Teleconferencing, broadband and other equipment • Access to a variety of Meeting Rooms with audio-visual presentation aids • Conference room with Teleconferencing, plasma screen for presentations • Use of the Delphi Bank Mez Function Space • Acknowledgement of contribution in the lobby of the Cultural Centre
"The GCM is a small part of our community and our objective is to work closely with Greek organizations for the good of all" said Mr. Papastergiadis. "We want to be together, to cooperate and work for our future."
He said that discussions on the services proposed will be explored and announced soon. |
