Description

Southern Sun, Aegean Light
Edited by Dr. Nick Trakakis

‘Southern Sun, Aegean Light’ represents the first attempt to collect in a single volume the poetry of second generation Greek Australians. Bringing together the distinct and diverse work of over thirty poets, from the well established to the newly published, this collection showcases the poetic contribution of a generation that has arisen out of the shadows of its migrant past as it established a voice and sensibility of its own.
The poetry presented here challenges stereotypes of what it is to be ‘Greek Australian’, while also grappling with a variety of issues beyond identity and belonging, including death and dying and memory and loss. These are poems to be savoured by former and current generations of Greek Australians, as well as the wider Australian community.
