CROSS CULTURAL WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP FORUM
16 June, 10.30am-3pm, BMW Edge, Federation Square
Women leaders from Victoria's ethnic community organisations will come together in June for a forum examining women's participation and leadership in community organisations. The inaugural forum will provide an opportunity for women from diverse cultural backgrounds to network, share experiences and discuss common issues relating to their involvement in ethnic community organisations.
The forum is aimed at women who are involved in decision-making within their ethnic communities at a voluntary and leadership level and will discuss real and perceived barriers to participation, perceptions within the community, and common issues faced by women within both established and newly arrived communities. It will be an opportunity to hear from leaders from various ethnic organisations and representatives from the Office of Women's Policy, Victorian Multicultural Commission and Multicultural Arts Victoria.
The Hon Joan Kirner AM, former Premier and current patron of the Victorian Immigrant and Refugee Women's Coalition is the keynote speaker.
The forum is an initiative of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV). It has received funding under the Office of Women's Policy's 2010 Women's Leadership Grants and has been incorporated into Federation Square's Gift of Light program, which aims to expand community engagement and connect with new organisations.
