The city’s Greek Centre was a haven for foodies across two weekends with cooking classes for all ages, a Trivia Night and a spectacular dinner hosted by Cretan restaurant Elyros.
The program of events was launched with a Kids Cooking Class during the school holidays, where children learnt to make keftedes (meatballs) and a Greek salad. The hands-on class was hosted by the Travelling Kitchen, who offered children of Primary School age practical cooking skills, nutrition education and some Greek language education.
Angela Nicolettou and Mary Valle shared their cooking secrets with those eager to learn the art of making the perfect pita (pie) and preserving vegetables and team ‘Tourlou Tourlou’ took out this year’s Flavours of Greece Trivia prize, beating 7 other teams with their vast knowledge of Greek food.
The highlight of this year’s program was undoubtedly the feature dinner presented by the talented team from Elyros; Angie Giannakodakis, Disa Dimitrakakis and chef Jarrod ‘Smith-akis’ . Guests walked into a neoclassical themed restaurant set up in the Greek Centre’s mezzanine space where they devoured course after course of dishes including prawns cooked over coal, stuffed squid with squid ink trahana and chocolate karithopita with Cretan honey honecomb. |
