Our Courses in 2025

Learn Modern Greek by attending our courses offered in 2024 and planned according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages *

Courses: Modern Greek A1A2B1B2C levels (Click each level to see the classes offered)

Term 1 (28 January – 4 April) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours - Classes may run on March 10 (Labour Day), if students wish; otherwise, replacement classes will be arranged.

Term 2 (22 April - 4 July) – 11 Sessions x 2 hours - Classes may run on April 25 (ANZAC Day) and on June 9 (King’s Birthday), if students wish; otherwise, replacement classes will be arranged.

Term 3 (21 July – 19 September) – 9 Sessions x 2 hours

Term 4 (6 October – 12 December) – 10 Sessions x 2 hours - - Classes may run on November 4 (Melbourne Cup), if students wish; otherwise, replacement classes will be arranged.

Venue: Online classes will be delivered via Microsoft teams or Skype - Face to face classes will be held at Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture, 168 Lonsdale St., Melbourne.

1. A1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
  • introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have.
  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

There are 8 classes to complete MG-A1 level starting from the entry class MG-A1.1 for absolute beginners and ending with the class MG-A1.8; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours)

2. A2 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

There are 5 classes to complete MG-A2 level starting from the class MG-A2.1 for students with a lower elementary knowledge and ending with the class MG-A2.8; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

3. B1 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
  • describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

4. B2 level courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation.
  • interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
  • produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

5. C level (C1, C2) courses preparing students to be able to:

  • understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning.
  • express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
  • use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

There are 12 classes to complete MG-C1 level (advanced level 1) starting from the class MG-C1.1 and ending with the class MG-C1.12 and 12 classes to complete MG-C2 level (advanced level 2) starting from the class MG-C2.1 and ending with the class MG-C2.12; each class lasts one term (9-11 sessions X 2 hours).

6. Modern Greek Speaking(Conversation) classes for students who want to practise and improve their speaking skills.

8. Modern Greek classes during daytime hours (10 am- 4 pm)

If you wish to study Greek during daytime hours (10 am- 4 pm) or if you want to get prepared for the examinations for the Certification of Attainment in Greek (https://www.greek-language.gr/certification/node/cert_en.html) classes may be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Venue: Online classes will be delivered via Zoom or Skype - Face to face classes will be held at Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture, 168 Lonsdale St., Melbourne

Fees: $395 for 10 classes X 2 hours or $590 for 10 classes X 3 hours + book fees according to your level.
