Join us for a conversation with Authors, artists, musicians together with Kurdish-Iranian writer, journalist and refugee Behrouz Boochani and translator Omid Tofighian.

The evening will feature as the main speaker, political activist Professor Gary Foley, and will be hosted by Nikos Papastergiadis, Director of the Research Unit in Public Cultures at the University of Melbourne, Arnold Zable, writer and human rights advocate, Janet Galbraith, writer and refugee advocate and award-winning photographer Hoda Afshar.

Behrouz (also appearing, via Skype [technology willing]), and those refugees who remain both on Manus Island and Nauru are victims of Australian Government policy, exposed daily to the brutality of authority, that engages in a process of dehumanisation, abuse and perpetuates a constant cycle of violence.

The conversation will centre around the power of art and how it serves as a collective commitment to comprehend such confronting issues and to expose the truth in order to address such repressive Government policies.

During the course of the evening the audience will listen to Kurdish music as an affirmation of resistance to a destructive Government force. Hoda Afshar's award winning image of Behrouz Boochani will be on display weaving the threads of collective resistance through artistic practices.
