The Greek Community of Melbourne was proud to present Romiosini & Beyond at Melbourne Recital Centre on Friday (17 May) where Dimitris Basis performed to a full house in the highly anticipated tribute concert to his mentor and idol Mikis Theodorakis.

Dimitris Basis lived up to his reputation as an international superstar while performing songs from the classic anthem Romiosini as well as a collection of other Theodarakis hits including arguably the most well-known Greek music, “Zorba”.

He was accompanied by a 40 piece orchestra, conducted by the internationally-acclaimed George Ellis as well as a five piece Greek Band.

The event was a tribute to the legendary Greek composer whose music shaped and reflected the emerging Greek state through much of the second half of the 20th Century.
